Bookshelf: Tender Grace

Here’s a novel idea for you…

Recently I read—and loved—Jackina Stark’s Tender Grace. Published by Bethany House, Tender Grace tells of Audrey Eaton, a widow who desperately misses her husband. More than a year after Tom’s death, Audrey still struggles to embrace life alone. “I don’t know how to be without Tom Eaton,” she writes.

Heartbroken yet tenacious, Audrey decides to take a road trip to finally see the place Tom had wanted them to visit together: an island near San Diego. Her trek from Missouri to California holds many realizations and reminders. But the highway isn't Audrey's only quest; she is also on a spiritual journey. Audrey brings along Tom’s Bible, and finds encouragement in the Book of John. Slowly and gently, God restores Audrey’s hope.

Tender Grace is beautifully written, with well-developed characters, easy dialogue, biblical truths and even humor throughout. Publishers Weekly praised Tender Grace with words like "fresh" and "witty" and "lovely". After only a few chapters, I felt as though I were in Audrey’s heart. And when I finished reading, well, I didn’t want to be done.

Visit Jackina’s website here, or purchase Tender Grace here or here. This is a novel you do not want to miss!
